Impeccable: The Free Open-Source Skill That Makes AI-Built Sites Look Like a Designer Was Involved

Jesse Burcsik·October 5, 2026·3 min read

You asked an AI to build your booking page. It works great. But it looks like every other AI-built page on the internet.

What's happening

AI coding assistants like Claude Code and Cursor are solid engineers but mediocre designers. Left on their own, they reach for the same neutral grays, the same safe font stacks, the same button styles every time. The results are fine. They just feel generic.

Impeccable is a free, Apache-2.0 open-source design skill for AI agents, started by developer Paul Bakaus. You install it once in your project, and it gives your AI a shared design vocabulary: over 60 deterministic rules that check the AI's work as it goes, a live browser loop for visual iteration, and clear language so you can steer by describing what you want instead of fiddling with CSS.

Version 1.7.0 dropped on October 3 and added the most practical feature yet. The new /impeccable generate command lets you describe a section in plain language and asks the AI to produce three distinct design variants, live in your browser, in about a minute. You pick the one that fits your brand, and it writes back to your source code. No designer needed, no back-and-forth prompt guessing.

Try this this week

  • Install it in a few minutes. Head to github.com/pbakaus/impeccable for the quick-start. It works in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and any agent that supports the skills framework.
  • Ask your AI to rebuild one page on your site. With Impeccable loaded, the agent applies quality rules automatically and avoids the most common generic choices.
  • Try the generate command on your messiest section. Type something like /impeccable generate 3 warm variants of my pricing cards and compare the results in your real browser.
  • Iterate in plain language. "The heading feels too corporate" or "make this warmer and less techie" works. You do not need to know CSS to direct it.
  • Check the changelog at impeccable.style. A few of the v1.7.0 rules specifically address how AI agents handle landing pages and dashboards, so if you have either, the update is worth reading.

The bigger picture

More and more small teams are building their own sites, booking tools, and internal dashboards with AI. The gap between "it functions" and "it looks like we actually care" used to mean hiring a designer or spending hours on manual tweaks. Tools like Impeccable narrow that gap for free. The build9 idea has always been that the smallest working thing should still work well, and this is one more reason a one-person shop can ship something they are not embarrassed to show clients.

I am a web developer in Ottawa, Ontario who builds AI systems for small businesses. I write these up because I am usually testing the thing in my own work first. Here is what I have built.

Like this? Let's put it to work.

I help small teams turn ideas like these into working systems, without a six month roadmap.
