The story
We started build9 because we kept seeing the same pattern: businesses excited about AI, spending money on consultants who deliver beautiful slide decks and strategic frameworks — and then nothing changes.
The gap isn't strategy. Every business leader knows AI can help. The gap is implementation. Someone who can take the idea, build the system, deploy it into your actual environment, and train your team to run it.
That's what we do. We're builders — developers, architects, and trainers who happen to specialize in AI. We write code. We deploy systems. We sit with your team and make sure they understand every button and every workflow.
Based in Ottawa, we work primarily with small and mid-size businesses (10-200 employees) who want AI that works, not AI that impresses in a demo and dies in production.
We also navigate Canadian government funding programs — IRAP, RAII, SR&ED — because building AI shouldn't break the bank when there's funding available to support innovation. Nobody else combines implementation with funding navigation. We do.
Why “build9”?
The name says what we do: we build. Not advise. Not strategize. Not consult from a distance. We build real systems that run in your real business.
And the 9? In French, “neuf” means both “nine” and “new.” In a bilingual capital, that felt right — every project is a chance to build something new.
People sometimes tell us the name reminds them of Bill Nye the Science Guy. We'll take it. He built things on camera, made complex science approachable, and educated everyone who watched. That's exactly the energy: build things, make AI approachable, educate the people we work with.
